One 8 day skippered cruise around the Azorean archipelago
Visiting 7 mysterious & enchanting islands
The Azores are just nine tiny specs on a chart situated in the mid Atlantic and are called the islands of fire and flowers. Your cruise will start from Horta marina on Faial the Blue Island known because of the abundance of hydrangeas. The port of Horta is truly a crossroads in the Atlantic, one where you will find gathered an armada of yachts from all over the world. It is here also that the famous Café Sport is situated; a great bar to listen to real salty stories whilst sipping on an incredibly cheap and large gin and tonic.
Weather permitting we will endeavor to visit 6 other islands the first being Pico that is dominated by its spectacular volcanic peak some 7000ft above sea level. The whaling museum in Lajes gives visitors the true sense of courage and determination of these islanders that have fought to sustain life in this remote community.
We will then set sail to St George, which owing to its elongated shape is called the ship of the ocean; the island is very rich in pastureland and famous for its cheese. .
The next island to be visited will be Graciosa the island of windmills and wine, its endearing charm and tranquility springs from the lack of 21st century sophistication. .
Terceira that has been a haven to pirates, conquistadors and lone yachtsmen will be our next island berthing in Angra do Heroismo, a beautiful and historical town that has now been declared a world heritage site by UNESCO Leaving here we will sail to the two Eastern islands of the Archipelago San Miguel and Santa Maria..
Our penultimate island Santa Maria the island of sun is known also as the Algarve of the Archipelago, it was the first Azorean island in 1427 to be discovered. Columbus it is claimed anchored here with the Nina and the Pinta in the small bay of Anjos on his return voyage after discovering the new world . .
San Miguel our final island of the cruise surprises and delights the eye with its stunning topography the crowning glory being that of the twin crater lakes at Sete Citades one blue and one green. .
SO COME AND VISIT THE AZORES, THE ISLANDS THAT TIME HAS FORGOTTEN!
